Privacy Policy

About this policy
Dosearoo keeps the information you enter about your children’s medicines on your own device. We will never sell it, and we do not upload it to our servers. The only thing the app ever sends online is a scanned barcode it doesn’t recognise.
Dosearoo is a mobile app that helps parents and carers record their children’s medicines, doses and reminders. It is made by RDCP Software (ABN 75 650 445 935), based in New South Wales, Australia (“we”, “us”, “our”).
This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is kept and the choices you have. It is written to meet the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). It applies to the Dosearoo app on iOS and Android and to www.rdcpsoftware.com.au.
Information the app handles
You choose what to enter. The app only holds information you type in or settings you pick.
| Type | Examples | Why it’s needed |
|---|---|---|
| Child profiles | Name or nickname, date of birth, sex, weight, photo (optional) | To organise medicines by child and suggest label doses by age or weight |
| Medicines | Medicine name, strength, dosage unit, frequency, directions, barcodes, planned last day | To show what each child takes and how |
| Dose log | Date, time and amount of each dose given, who gave it, notes | To show dose history and when the next dose is due |
| Health notes | Temperature, symptoms and notes, recorded with a dose or on their own | To help you see how your child is going and share it with a doctor if you choose |
| Carers | Names or labels you choose, such as Mum, Dad or Nan | To record who confirmed a medicine’s dose and who gave each dose |
| Reminders | Reminder times, labels, on/off status | To schedule notifications on your device |
| App settings | Theme (light, dark, system), notification preferences | To make the app work the way you prefer |
Much of this, such as medicines, doses, weight, temperatures and symptoms, is health information, which Australian privacy law treats as sensitive. We handle it with extra care, as set out below.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts or payment details. You do not need an account to use the app.
Where your information is stored
Everything you enter is stored in a database on your phone or tablet. It is not sent to RDCP Software, and we cannot see, access or recover it.
Your device’s own backup service (such as iCloud Backup or Google backup) may include the app’s data if you have backups turned on. Those backups are handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies.
Backup and export files. In Settings, you can export a Dosearoo backup file of the app’s data, or export a dose history (including health notes) as a PDF or CSV file. These files are created on your device and go only where you choose to save or send them, such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, email or your doctor. They contain your children’s health information and are not encrypted by the app, so please store and share them with care. Backup files don’t include child photos.
Family Sync (future feature). We plan to add an optional feature that lets family members share data across devices. It will be off unless you choose to turn it on. Before it launches, we will update this policy to explain what is stored, where, and for how long, and we will ask for your consent in the app.
How information is used and shared
The app uses your information only on your device, to provide its features:
- showing each child’s medicines, directions and dose history
- suggesting a dose from a medicine’s label based on age or weight, for you to check and confirm
- working out when the next dose is due and sending reminders
- recording temperatures and symptoms, with a dose or on their own
- recording which carer confirmed a dose or gave a medicine
We will never sell, rent or trade your information. We do not use it for profiling or automated decisions about you or your child. Because we never receive it, we do not disclose it to anyone.
If you choose to share information yourself, for example by taking a screenshot, exporting a dose history to send to a doctor or saving a backup file, you control where it goes.
Children’s information
Dosearoo is designed for parents, guardians and carers aged 18 or over. It is not intended for children to use themselves.
When you add a child to the app, you confirm that you are their parent, guardian or authorised carer and that you are entitled to record their health information. We encourage you to enter only what you need. A first name or nickname is enough, and a photo is optional.
Notifications, permissions and third parties
The app asks for only the device permissions it needs:
| Permission | Used for | If you say no |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | Dose reminders | The app still works, but you won’t get reminders |
| Exact alarms (Android) | Reminders at the exact time you set | Reminders may arrive a few minutes late |
| Camera | Scanning a medicine’s barcode, and taking a child’s profile photo | You can type the barcode number instead, and profiles show initials |
| Photos (if you add a child photo) | Choosing a profile photo from your library | Profiles show initials instead |
Reminders are scheduled and delivered on your device. Notification text may appear on your lock screen. You can hide notification content in your device settings if others can see your phone.
Barcode lookup. If you scan a medicine’s barcode (or type its number) and it isn’t in the app’s built-in library, the app looks the number up in Open Products Facts and then Open Food Facts, free public product databases run by the non-profit Open Food Facts project, to suggest the product’s name. Only the barcode number is sent, with nothing about you, your child or their medicines. Like any internet request, these services will receive your device’s IP address, which they handle under their own privacy policies. This is the only feature that uses the internet. If you’d rather nothing is sent, add the medicine without scanning its barcode.
The app does not currently include analytics or tracking tools. If we add advertising in future, we will update this policy before it launches to name the ad provider and explain what device information it collects. Apple and Google may collect information when you download the app from their stores, under their own privacy policies.
Security, retention and deletion
Your information is protected by your device’s own security, such as its passcode, fingerprint or face unlock, and encryption. Please keep your device locked and up to date.
Information stays on your device until you delete it. You can:
- edit or delete any child, medicine, dose, health note or reminder in the app. So that dose history stays accurate, deleted and corrected items are hidden rather than erased, and stay in the app’s records and in backup files
- delete all app data from Settings, which permanently erases everything, including hidden items and child photos
- delete any backup or export files you have saved elsewhere, which are separate copies the app can’t remove
- uninstall the app, which removes its data from your device (copies in device backups are kept under your backup settings)
Because we never hold your data, we cannot restore it if your device is lost, reset or replaced. You can restore it yourself from a Dosearoo backup file or your device’s backup.
Your rights and complaints
You can view, correct and delete your information directly in the app at any time. If you contact us, we will tell you what, if anything, we hold about you; in most cases that will be only your email to us.
If you have a privacy concern, please contact us first. We will respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Dosearoo is offered only in Australia, and this policy is written for Australian users.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy, for example when Family Sync launches. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app before they take effect.
